The exhibition brings together works from across Khanna's long and distinguished career. It traces his lasting interest in people on the move. These are the refugees, migrants, labourers and others whose ordinary lives often go unseen, yet who remain deeply vulnerable. Khanna is the last surviving member of the Progressive Artists' Group (PAG) of Bombay. From the iconic Bandwallahs and Truckwallahs series to his paintings on biblical and mythological themes, his work reveals a deep empathy for the human condition. He records both the hardship of survival and the dignity within it. His art spans the upheavals of the mid-twentieth century and the changing society of the present day. Seen together, the works form a visual continuum of displacement, labour, resilience and endurance. Khanna makes the ordinary and the overlooked the subject of his art. He takes people from the margins and brings them to the centre of his work.
